In Denver, in 2015, Olga Martin's daughter Zoie is found dead in an alley. The police believe Zoie died of a drug overdose, but Olga finds the circumstances of Zoie's death suspicious, and launches her own investigation. Zoie, from beyond the grave, narrates the investigation and shows the audience her complicated relationship with her mother and drugs, and the increasing trouble drugs bring into her life.
